Project: Douglas County School District All-Weather Sports Field
Client: Douglas County School District
Location: Minden, Nevada
Description:
This project involved preparation of complete bid documents and specifications in addition to the improvement plans, as well as taking the project through the bid process and administering the contract through the course of construction. The upkeep and budgeting for this project was, like many others, demanding for the local school district. This project was slightly complicated with the retirement of Rick Kester, who had served as our point of contact, and the need to bring the new DOBS, Ms. Holly Luna, up to date on the project.
Utility improvements for this project were limited to conduit runs to serve proposed timing equipment for the track events. …..The project was complicated by the owner’s wish to bid the artificial surface as an alternate to the original plan for sod. The decision to add this alternate to the bid documents came on extremely late in the process yet we were successfully able to revise the bid package to accommodate this for the owner. Ultimately, it was elected to install the artificial turf. We also prepared a separate bid process for the turf contractors to compete for. Our firm designed the color schemes for the final football/soccer field as well with direction from the owner. The project began construction during the Spring of 2006 and is schedule for completion for the fall of 2006. This work constituted the main portion of the project, the owner has also retained our services to develop the plans for a storage building for the track athletic equipment and there are future plans to upgrade the press box and potentially install an additional storage building for football equipment and an upgrade to the security fencing surrounding the project area.
