Project: Sierra Nevada Golf Course Irrigation System Improvements

Client: Little Mondeaux Limousin Corp.

Location: Carson Valley, Nevada

Description:
Site: Sierra Nevada Golf Course is a premier 18-hole golf course situated on the west side of Carson Valley.

Challenge: Using natural elevation difference to pressurize the irrigation system, the golf course owner and operator prefer to utilize creek water intercepted high in James Canyon. However, as flows diminish in the summer, the course must use increasing amounts of supplemental groundwater from a basin fill aquifer, which is located several miles from the course and at an extreme elevation difference. The client retained R.O. Anderson to develop a storage and distribution system as well as additional sources of water to irrigate the 18-hole golf course project.

Solution: To meet irrigation requirements for the course, we conceived a complex design that combined both underground and surface sources for the irrigation water. A large irrigation well and a booster pump station were also part of this project. Working with extreme pressures and intricate piping systems, our team was able to use simple fail-safe controls and pressure-relief valves to provide a reliable and economical water system.
