Project: Markleeville Creek Bank Stabilization

Client: Markleeville Public Utility District

Location: Markleeville, California

Description:
Site: The site’s 20-foot-high bank failure was in immediate proximity to the utility district’s water pollution control facility.

Challenge: The bank showed significant stream erosion, which threatened the district’s primary sewer line and access road to their sewage treatment ponds . The district engaged R.O. Anderson to assist them with the design, permitting and construction services for the stabilization project; timeliness in the delivery of a practical design was critical to this project due to the threat of substantial bank failure and the potential damage to the main influent line.

Solution: After evaluating several potential solutions, we designed and implemented a combination of rock-toe protection, erosion control matting and stream barbs to eliminate further erosion in this area. Our team also assisted the district to solicit and obtain construction proposals in a timely manner, as well as grant applications to obtain reimbursement of both design and construction monies expended on the project.
